Meet Alenka
I have always been captivated by death and the impact it has on people in our society. How do people manage to live through the death of a loved one? How do they cope? How do they adjust to their changed/altered lives?
Growing up in the Catholic faith, in a vibrant, close-knit parish, on many occasions I witnessed the ritual and the practices of a traditional visitation (with open casket) and the Funeral Mass. I continued to be intrigued with bereavement and grief.
While in university I knew that I wanted to work in a profession that involved helping and serving others. During my 3rd year, I was introduced to the funeral service profession, which called strongly to me and led to a Funeral Director diploma and 20+ year career as a professional caregiver to families experiencing loss and grief.
In 2011, I walked away from the corporate bereavement sector and began my journey as an entrepreneur, building my own business based on caring for people.
Over the past few years, while attending various funerals within my community, there continued to be a strong urge to return to this work but in a different capacity. I love to positively impact people’s lives, I enjoy public speaking and value the comfort that rituals and gatherings for life-changing events give individuals. After much research, I chose to pursue my continued education through the Celebrant Foundation and Institute, graduating in December of 2021.
I think it’s important for people reading this information to know that I have experienced the loss of several important people in my life and I have come through my grief with each one permanently imprinting a part of their spirit unto me. I do this work in their memory.
